THINK BEYOND GRADUATION

Your degree. Your route back to the UK.

Choose a course with your future registration pathway in mind. English teaching, EU accreditation and UK professional registration are separate questions.

Ask about the year you expect to graduate.

A student starting a five- or six-year course in 2027 will graduate after the currently published GDC standstill horizon and RCVS change date. Today’s arrangements cannot be treated as a promise for that future date.

GMC

Medicine

GMC has an application route for doctors holding a relevant European qualification. The award must meet the exact country-specific requirements; check the awarding authority, title, training and evidence required.

There is no blanket “GMC-approved European university” shortcut. Ask about the exact qualification and route, English evidence, internship and any examination requirements.
GDC

Dentistry

Certain recognised EEA dental qualifications currently use a near-automatic recognition route. The GDC describes the current standstill arrangements and says the position after the extension period is unknown.

Current extension horizon: June 2028. Do not promise an examination-free route for a student graduating after that date.
GPhC

Pharmacy

The GPhC has a route to assess recognition of eligible EEA pharmacy qualifications. Recognition of the qualification and full registration are distinct steps.

Check the specific award, practical training, English evidence and other registration conditions directly with the GPhC. Its remit is Great Britain; Northern Ireland has a separate regulator.
RCVS

Veterinary

The RCVS states that from January 2029 only directly RCVS-accredited programmes will qualify for the specified recognition route. EAEVE accreditation alone will no longer give automatic recognition.

A graduate of a programme without the required direct accreditation may need the statutory membership exam. Check the exact programme and graduation date before accepting.

A five-question registration check

  1. What is the exact final qualification, awarding institution and campus?
  2. What are my expected start and graduation dates?
  3. Will every part of my training, including transfers and clinical placements, meet the regulator’s requirements?
  4. What English, internship, practical-training or examination evidence will I need?
  5. What is the alternative route, cost and timing if recognition changes?

Keep written replies with your application records and recheck the position before enrolment and during your studies. The regulator makes the registration decision.
