From offer
to arrival.

Understand who decides what, then work through the practical steps before you accept, before you leave and when you arrive.

Keep your personal documents with the relevant university or authority. This guide asks for no identity, nationality, health or financial details.

Six decisions. The right source for each.

Use these checkpoints to find the decision-maker and the next question. Follow the existing guides for the detailed explanation.

01Your admission offer

An offer, enrolment and permission to travel are separate milestones.

  • Confirm the exact award, awarding institution, campus and clinical-training locations.
  • Ask which conditions remain, how to satisfy them and the deadline for acceptance.
Application and document guide
02Recognition of your qualifications

Admission assessment, formal recognition of earlier qualifications and future professional recognition are different decisions.

  • Ask whether the university or a national authority must recognise your school or university qualifications.
  • Get the required document format and sequence in writing before paying for certification, translation or legalisation.
Application and document guide
03Nationality-dependent requirements

The country where you studied does not establish your citizenship or immigration rights.

  • Read the route that applies to your citizenship and existing lawful residence; ask the authority if more than one route could apply.
  • Do not assume that UK residence, an EU qualification or a second passport automatically determines admission, fees or permission to stay.
Country context and official links
04Visa and residence permission

A university offer is not an immigration decision. Permission for a short visit may not permit a full degree.

  • Use the destination’s official authority to check permission to enter, study and remain, including appointments and required evidence.
  • Confirm the timing of any pre-travel permission and post-arrival registration, plus conditions on work, travel or accompanying family if relevant.
Choose official destination resources below
05Your fee classification

Ask for the fee category attached to your own written offer.

  • Confirm the intake year, currency, later-year charges, compulsory extras, payment recipient and refund terms.
  • Check what happens to deposits and tuition if conditions are not met, immigration permission is refused or the start date is deferred.
Full-course budget planner
06Future professional registration

Academic admission does not establish your right to practise after graduation.

  • Check the exact award, expected graduation year, clinical training and internship requirements with the regulator where you intend to work.
  • Use the existing UK guide for UK practice; for another country, obtain guidance from that country’s regulator.

Choose your study destination

Open the official sources for the country where you plan to study.

Changing destination updates the source links and clears your checklist progress. It does not assess your nationality, residence rights, visa eligibility or fee status.

Your official starting points

Select a destination to see its immigration, qualification-recognition and student-arrival sources. Check the rules that apply to your own circumstances directly with those authorities.

Your offer-to-arrival checklist

Mark the steps you have completed. Progress stays only in this browser session.

0 / 30steps marked complete

Planning windows, not legal deadlines. Check official deadlines first. If a visa, recognition, registration or university step is due earlier, do it earlier. A tick records your progress, not approval by an authority.

Before committing to a place or deposit

Before you accept

Resolve the six decision checks above and understand what accepting the offer commits you to.

Before you accept · Before committing to a place or deposit

Resolve the six decision checks above and understand what accepting the offer commits you to.

  1. ☐ Get the essential answers in writing

Keep the official offer and written replies about admission conditions, qualification recognition, fee classification and your intended professional route.

    Application and document guidehttps://medstudy.eu/apply
  2. ☐ Read the contract, deadlines and refund terms

Check acceptance and deposit dates, cancellation and deferral terms, and what happens if final results or immigration permission are delayed.

    Full-course budget plannerhttps://medstudy.eu/costs
  3. ☐ Verify the official channel and payment recipient

Use the university’s published portal and independently confirm any unexpected change of bank details through its official contact. Keep payment and submission receipts.

After accepting your offer · Start promptly; follow the university and authority deadlines

Turn the offer into a confirmed enrolment and a workable arrival plan.

  1. ☐ Confirm acceptance has been recorded

Complete the official acceptance procedure and retain the acknowledgement. Ask how and when the final enrolment confirmation will be issued.

  2. ☐ Close outstanding offer conditions

Track final grades, approved translations, qualification-recognition decisions and any required university forms. Ask who must receive originals and whether you should retain them until arrival.

    Application and document guidehttps://medstudy.eu/apply
  3. ☐ Obtain the documents needed for your immigration route

Ask for the admission, enrolment, sponsorship or mediation documents the official student-permission process requires. Check appointment availability and processing arrangements before booking travel.

Official country resources (see the destination sources in this plan)
  4. ☐ Arrange verified accommodation

Confirm the address, contract, deposit, check-in date and whether the landlord or residence supplies any proof of accommodation needed by the authorities. Know whom to contact if arrival is delayed.

  5. ☐ Check the required insurance and healthcare cover

Confirm which health cover the destination authority and university accept for your full stay. Separately check travel cover, exclusions and repatriation; a healthcare entitlement card does not replace comprehensive travel insurance.

Prepare to leave · Often 4–8 weeks before travel; act earlier where required

These are planning windows, not legal deadlines. Bring any task forward if the official process requires it.

  1. ☐ Complete the applicable official permission process

Follow the national authority’s checklist, evidence requirements and appointment instructions. Verify the decision or permission you need before travel; an application receipt is not automatically permission to enter.

  2. ☐ Confirm arrival, enrolment and teaching dates

Ask about compulsory welcome events, in-person identity or original-document checks, late-arrival rules and the actual start of teaching. Arrange travel around the confirmed requirements.

  3. ☐ Plan reliable access to funds

Allow for housing deposits, initial living costs and university payments. Check card access, transfer timing and an emergency payment option. Verify any formal proof-of-funds requirement with the authority.

    Full-course budget plannerhttps://medstudy.eu/costs
  4. ☐ Arrange continuity of healthcare and medicines

Use official travel and destination guidance to check how to carry necessary medicines, any documentation or restrictions, and how to obtain ongoing care. Arrange this privately with the relevant professionals; do not enter health details here.

  5. ☐ Ask about healthcare-course onboarding

Confirm any occupational-health, vaccination-evidence, screening, background-check, uniform or placement requirements directly with the faculty. Check when each is due and who receives the evidence.

  6. ☐ Contact student support if arrangements are needed

Learn how to access academic, wellbeing and disability support. Arrange any private discussion or required adjustments with the university before arrival; this website does not collect that information.

The final week · Recheck shortly before departure

Make the first journey manageable and keep essential information accessible.

  1. ☐ Recheck travel and entry requirements

Check the official destination guidance, passport or travel-document requirements, entry permission and any conditions attached to your student status. Recheck disruption notices close to departure.

  2. ☐ Prepare required originals and a secure backup

Carry the originals and supporting evidence the university and border authority require. Keep a secure copy separately and know how to retrieve it. Do not put your only essential documents in checked luggage.

  3. ☐ Confirm the route from arrival point to accommodation

Check transport, journey time, payment methods and a fallback. Save the accommodation address and official contact information so they are available offline.

  4. ☐ Confirm check-in and out-of-hours arrangements

Ask how to obtain keys, report a delay and get help if you arrive when the residence or university office is closed.

  5. ☐ Keep emergency and university contacts accessible

Save official emergency numbers, university support and accommodation contacts. Arrange a private check-in plan with someone you trust. Keep essential medicines accessible where the carrier and destination rules permit.

Your first 72 hours · Or sooner where an official deadline applies

Prioritise safe accommodation, university check-in and any time-sensitive official formalities.

  1. ☐ Check into accommodation and inspect its condition

Confirm that you have the agreed accommodation and basic facilities. Record any existing damage privately and report urgent problems through the official residence or landlord channel.

  2. ☐ Attend the university’s arrival and enrolment checks

Bring the requested originals and complete the faculty’s enrolment steps. Confirm that you are enrolled, know where to obtain your student ID and understand the first compulsory sessions.

  3. ☐ Confirm local registration appointments and deadlines

Check address reporting, immigration registration and residence-card collection with the official authority and the university. Some steps are due sooner than this planning stage or must be arranged before travel.

  4. ☐ Activate university communications and learning access

Set up the university account, student portal and required authentication. Check your timetable, official email, classroom locations and where announcements are published.

  5. ☐ Locate healthcare and urgent help

Know the local emergency number, nearest appropriate urgent-care service and how to use your accepted health cover. Follow official university instructions for healthcare registration where required.

Settle in during the first month · Follow the earliest applicable official deadline

Close remaining formalities and establish routines that support your studies.

  1. ☐ Complete remaining residence and address formalities

Collect any required permit or card, check its conditions and accuracy, and record renewal dates. Do not wait a month if the official deadline is earlier.

  2. ☐ Confirm tuition and accommodation payment arrangements

Check that payments are credited, instalment dates are clear and any contract or funding conditions are understood. Keep receipts privately.

    Full-course budget plannerhttps://medstudy.eu/costs
  3. ☐ Understand attendance, assessment and progression

Read the programme handbook, attendance rules, examination arrangements and resit or progression requirements. Ask the faculty about any unclear obligation.

  4. ☐ Start the required clinical-language preparation

Ask which language is needed for patient or animal-owner communication, the target level and when it is assessed. English lectures do not necessarily remove local-language placement requirements.

  5. ☐ Establish your support and healthcare arrangements

Confirm how to contact your academic adviser, international office, wellbeing service and healthcare provider. Complete any agreed private support arrangements through the university.

  6. ☐ Create your private reminders for renewals and reviews

Track immigration permission, insurance, housing and university deadlines. Recheck professional-registration requirements during the course, especially before changing campus, programme or clinical placement.
